| There
are several Reggae Vocalists whose voices
are going strong, decade after decade. Many
of these artists will never be recognized by
the established Music Industry, for the
simple reason that they're just... too good.
But you can't keep a good man down, so
they say.
And so, when you listen to the album
"ROOTSMAN",
which he voiced in Mad Professor's Ariwa
studio, or when you listen to REGGAE MUSIC
ALLRIGHT, you will find that Michael Prophet
surely deserves a place in that list.
Michael Prophet is "discovered"
by none other then Yabby You, the original
Jesus Dread who also produced Michael Rose
in his early years.
This is truly a remarkable singer!
And REGGAE MUSIC ALLRIGHT is truly a
remarkable album as well.
The album contains ten outstanding
tracks. Outstanding, because of the
performance as well as production. The music
is played Rub a Dub style, and recorded in
the early 1980's. Deep bass, nuff DUB
effects, Michael Prophet's voice. Everything
goes so well together that you can say this
album is recommended not only because of
Michael Prophet's superb singing, but also
because of the musical experience.
It can also be said, that REGGAE MUSIC
ALLRIGHT is a school example of high quality
Rub a Dub.
Rub a Dub is nothing less then early
Dancehall style. Many will now recognize
Dancehall as that cocaine-inspired fusion of
Hip Hop and something remotely resembling
something "Reggae-ish", but Rub a
Dub is none of that. Rub a Dub is a form of
pure Reggae, and it's often played by a full
(studio) band.
REGGAE MUSIC ALLRIGHT contains beautifull
horn themes, catchy guitar play, and a
supertight drum and bass.
The engineer, the man behind the mixing
table, also plays a crucial role when it
comes to producing a good Rub a Dub album. A
good Rub a Dub album will often come with
some subtle DUB mixing. An echo here, some
stricktly drum and bass there. You guessed
it: this is skillfully done on REGGAE MUSIC
ALLRIGHT.
Indeed, REGGAE MUSIC ALLRIGHT. More then
allright! This one is crucial, because of
Michael Prophet's skillfull and superb
singing and because of the outstanding
production and performance. A must for every
serious collector of crucial Reggae Music.
