These were not the only early releases by LKJ. He also brought out several 12 Inches.

Because the music was originally recorded and released in the late 1970's, early 1980's, it came out on vinyl. Unlike today's CD's and even DVD's, vinyl could hold that much music and it was rather expensive to produce as well.

This all has as a result, that LKJ's early releases contained only about eight tracks per album.  For today's standards, way too little. And that's why Island now released INDEPENDANT INTAVENSHAN: THE ISLAND ANTHOLOGY. It's a complete work of early LKJ, without the crucial debute album that is. DREAD BEAT AND BLOOD was released through Virgin. 

LKJ IN DUB VOLUME ONE contained some crucial DUB mixes from the vocal albums FORCES OF VICKTRY and BASS CULTURE (reviews below). The nice thing on this double CD is, that these DUBS are presented after the original track from the vocal albums.

INDEPENDANT INTAVENSHAN also comes with extra stuff. There's a great 12 dub on the 12 inch of Black Petty Booswah, for example. And also the full album "Making History" (not yet reviewed on this site) can be found on the double disc.

Now that these four albums can be bought on one double CD for a very fair price, there is no longer any excuse for you not to have the most of Linton Kwesie Johnson's finest Roots Rock Reggae releases. Releases which "converted" the webmaster of this website to Reggae Music, back in the early 1980's!
