JAH STITCH - ORIGINAL RAGGAMUFFIN (1972-1977)

Many positive things can be said about Blood And Fire, the Reggae re-release label started by the singer of the band Simply Red.

Blood and Fire doesn't only give you the music, a music loved by so many people. The label provides you with some crucial information as well. Information which will definitely add several dimensions to the listening experience.

Original Raggamuffin is a perfect example why Blood and Fire should be credited and respected. The disc comes with fourteen killer tracks, and with some very interesting liner notes containing an interview with JAH Stitch.

A prominent in the art of Toasting ("Reggae Rapping"), JAH Stitch released a wealth of crucial material through his producer Bunny Lee. Militant Roots Rockers, skillfully mixed in DUB Style with the MC chanting over it: JAH Stitch mastered the art.

ORIGINAL RAGGAMUFFIN contains a selection of conscious material put out by JAH Stitch. As he toasts Truths and Rights over the heavyweight Rockers, it becomes clear that this is the real deal. JAH Stitch knows where he talks about!

Fortunately, Blood and Fire didn't only select a couple of tunes and put them on a CD. And they didn't only produce some great Cover Art to accompany the music either, even though they did all of that.

They went further and  made sure, that people would actually know what they have in their hands. And so, this album comes with a small booklet sometimes called Liner Notes.

These liner notes portray what life is all about in Jamaica. The situations in which that music was developed that we love so much. The hearticality, the authenticity, even the militancy: all results of what is generally known as "suffering".

JAH Stitch was born and raised in Jamaica. And he knows what "suffering" means! According to the liner notes, it's even a miracle that he produced the tunes on this album. It turns out, that at a certain moment he found himself in a lethal situation. A moment in which he got shot and a bullet even wenth though his head!

After being in the hospital for a very long time, the first thing he did was going to a sound and try to find out if he could still do some crucial toasting over riddims. Fortunately, he could! But there was something going on as well, because the event that nearly cost him his life actually changed his voice.

When you're looking for a crucial document, look no further. The ORIGINAL RAGGAMUFFIN will not only provide you with crucial information, with uplifting lyrics, the music forms a documentation in itself!
