Black
Uhuru had it's finest time during the years
they were under the productional guidance of
Sly and Robbie in the early 1980's, there's
hardly any debate about that.
Under their Taxi Label, the Rhyhm Twins
produced progressive music. Much of it
sounded way ahead of it's time and decades
later still sounds fresh.
Michael Rose, Puma Jones and Duckie
Simpson fitted perfectly in what Sly and
Robbie had in mind: and so the militant
character of the vocal harmony group was
captured on tape.
It was a time, wherein more and more
digital possibilities became available.
Electronic drum kits, digital delays and
reverberations all enhanced the ways of
method in the studio's and Sly and Robbie
were at the forefront.
And so, when Black Uhuru went from
Jammy's to record for Taxi, this ment a big
change for the group's sounds. They were
more or less taken into this new era and not
without success: many reviewers speak about
Black Uhuru almost reaching the popularity
status of Bob Marley, who passed away during
this time.
Sinsemillia is one of the strongest Black
Uhuru albums produced by Sly and Robbie. The
music sounds ultra-clear, extremely
danceable and yet dread serious.
This disc comes with two bonus tracks,
maxi singles which can also be found on
their album "Guess Who's Coming To
Dinner".
